I’ve decided to start a bit of a mini series with these ‘TRENDING’ posts. If you have a thing for baker boy hats my first post of this series is for you. There are so many trends floating around this winter I thought I’d share some outfit inspiration and tips on how I personally wear them. Plus I saw this studded, embroidered skirt on ASOS and it had to go ~straight in my basket~ sorry couldn’t resist. I think the key to styling embroidery is; less is more. I’ll be honest, when embroidery first came about I thought it was all a bit *lame*, like the sort of thing that’s cute on a pair of kids dungarees but on a grownup.. well it wasn’t for me. However the trend has grown on me.. (duh, that’s what trends do) and placed on faux leather, a white blouse or paired with studs I find, counteracts the innocence of embroidery.
When styling an embroidered piece, especially one with many colours I’d definitely keep the rest of the outfit neutrals and not too many varieties of colours. The focus is meant to be the embroidery after all so let that do the talking.
Don’t go too ‘cutsy’. Not that it’s my thing anyway, but if you go for embroidery on a girly dress in shades of pink and baby blue, chances are you’re going to look about 10 years younger than you are. *Note to self: keep this in mind for those ‘gawd I’m getting old’ kinda days.* Faux leather and studs give this whole look a grunge edge, which I love as it’s a bit different to my every-day style. I’ve accentuated the grungeyness (what do you mean that’s not a word..?) further with some fishnets. FYI if like me, you were after both the smaller fishnets and oversized fishnets, ASOS happen to do a handy 2 pack.
The frill shoulders on this Pretty Little Thing top, give the perfect amount of detail whilst keeping the top simple and understated giving the skirt the centre of attention.
