I’m a planner. Anyone who knows me knows I like to plan ahead, from my daily “To Do” lists to my ‘5 Year Plan’. I just feel like it’s the best way to get the most out of life. For example, if your friend group is anything like mine, organising going for a drink can take 3 weeks planning (insert eye roll emoji). Or going for a weekend away somewhere, if you don’t research and plan ahead you’ll miss out on things you didn’t know about and waste time faffing around finding the best places to go. And lorddd knows I hate faffing. This is not to say I don’t love those spontaneous trips/days/nights out but those are usually few and far between.
With that all being said I have decided to plan my new years resolutions now so I can put them in place before the new year. I, like everyone else, love a fresh start. A new week, a new month, a new year which gives you that feeling of ‘this is the week/month/year.’ However it also gives me that feeling on a Sunday night which allows me to eat that extra large bar of chocolate because ‘it’s a new week tomorrow’. And gives us the mentality of ‘next year I’m going to…’ and half the time that promise we make to ourselves never happens/lasts (by Friday I’m guzzling a 600 calorie bottle of wine because ‘I’ll start the diet again on Monday’). Planning resolutions now means you can start slowly creating the habit and also gives you time to prepare for the resolution, making it all the more likely to actually happen. It also means if one week you have a blip you’re less likely to think ‘oh forget it, I give up’ as the New year hasn’t even started yet!
So here are my top 3 resolutions for 2017 which I am in full planning mode for:
- Get fit – Workout clothes are on the Christmas list and I’m currently attempting to get into the routine of morning gym sessions. (6am is not my finest hour that’s for sure)
- Do more fun things – This one sounds ridiculously simple but it ties in with my ‘getting the most out of life’ mantra and it’s something I’ve already started and does require a lot of planning. My goal is one ‘fun’ thing a month and I’m kicking off January with a bang – a trip to Iceland (booked and planned!)
- Learn Spanish – App downloaded, time scheduled in. This one may take me a while but I’m determined to become bi-lingual one day!
What are your new years resolutions?
