OK so slight exaggeration when I said ‘ditching the neutrals’ but I am moving away from them and adding more colour and floral into my wardrobe! Neutrals are the easiest colours to wear by far, they immediately look elegant, classy, more grown-up (in my opinion) and you don’t have to do much to make them work. It’s also very easy to be influenced by those bloggers whose perfectly muted/neutral Instagram themes and style convince you that you never want to wear colour again. But these Spring and Summer seasons have seen both pink and red being huge trends and I think that’s where my love for colour was reborn. Now we’re full swing into summer too (although it’s currently raining as I write this), brighter colours always feel more acceptable. While they’re not as easy to wear they make the simplest dresses/trousers into statement pieces so I’m taking full advantage of the sunny weather, when we do get it, and embracing colour.
My style isn’t very girly so floral prints aren’t usually my thing. I also feel there is a fine line when wearing floral between looking like you’re 6 years old and just looking girly (and grownup) but maybe that’s just the tomboy in me speaking. However, the muted floral print of this dress caught my eye and these colours work so well together! I have grunged this look down slightly with a western style belt from ASOS and those amazing Topshop Gucci dupe boots. I’ve scouted out all the floral dresses (with grownup prints) which are perfect for summer and linked below . Plus find even more linked in this post I did on date night dressing.
You can shop my particular floral dress at H&M. Be warned it is a bit see-through so I wore a nude slip underneath, as I do with most dresses like this as they always seem to be a bit see-through! You can find a slip at Primark, Topshop, ASOS or probably most retailers for fairly cheap and they come in so handy so I’d definitely recommend getting one if you haven’t already! I’d also bare in mind this dress looked so dull on the hanger (and online) so try and picture the dresses with a belt and some accessories. If you wanted to keep the look girly it would work equally well with a small belt and sandals.
We have to quickly talk about the bag of the season- the basket bag. I’m obsessed with them as they seem to go with everything and look so cute in summer! This is the one every blogger seems to have, from Zara. It’s sold out online but keep an eye out by searching for ‘Pompom basket’ as it might come back or look in stores.
