Ah, the L’oreal Steampod. What can I say about this little miracle machine except just that, it really is a miracle tool, for me anyway. Let me give you a little background on my hair. It’s curly and extremely dry naturally. No matter what products I put on it – and trust me I’ve tried them all – it will always be slightly on the frizzy side. (Don’t get me wrong the right products seriously improve the look and feel of my hair – more on those in another post!) Whenever I straightened my hair using GHDs or similar the result would be poker straight, stiff straw like hair which if you were to hold the ends up, it would be so dry that they would stay sticking straight up with no ‘movement’. It would also still be extremely thick and sometimes I would end up with triangle hair.. You know, where your head looks like an upside down triangle due to the volume at the ends..(tell me I’m not the only one?) I can litterally hear the sighs of those (blessed) with thinner hair, as they curse me for complaining about my thick locks, because the grass is always greener… Because of this ah-mazing (insert eye roll) hair mother nature gifted me with , I’ve always been on the lookout for a better tool to straighten and curl my hair.
All hail the Steampod
The L’oreal Steampod, solves all my hair problems. It works with steam (duh) and that inflicts moisture into the hair whilst straightening it. The result with this is that the cuticles of my hair actually lie flat (generic straighteners flatten the cuticle at any angle) which means my hair sits flatter and looks much more natural when straight, compared to the ironed, triangle look it had with generic straighteners. The extra moisture completely banishes the straw-like texture leaving my hair feeling a lot smoother and sleeker and full of bounce and movement. I’m willing to bet anyone with naturally curly hair, thick or dry hair will absolutely love this hair tool as much as I do. That’s not to say those with thinner or wavy hair won’t love it too. I’ve raved about it so much my friends with completely different hair types and textures have tried it and so far it’s converted everyone. Plus it claims to be less damaging to your hair which, if true is an added bonus. Not to mention the fact it cuts your styling time in half. It would take me nearly an hour with regular straighteners where as with the Steampod it takes less than half an hour from wet to dry. Honestly it’s hard to describe what a life-saving hair tool the L’oreal Steampod is but hopefully the photographs of my hair do it justice.
At this point I should probably add a little *Disclaimer* while I’m aware I’m raving about this as though I’ve been paid thousands of pounds to do so, this is not a sponsored post, I just really really love the Steampod. If you hadn’t realised.
This is what I’m working with. Whilst damp, it is a frizzy curly mess and (if I use no products) once dry it only gets worse. Don’t get me wrong I love curly hair and when I use the right products I love my natural curls. However for those bad hair days, when my hair is not cooperating or when I want to look more sleek and styled the L’oreal Steampod is like that best mate you can always rely on.
The controls consist simply of an on/off button and plus/minus buttons to control the heat. With a top temperature of 230 degrees it’s hot enough for the most unruly hair. Simply top up the pod with water and place on a flat surface, the suction cups hold it firmly on the side and a bit of water goes a long way, top it up once and it will be enough for 2/3 heads of hair.
It’s just as easy to create curls, which then have so much more bounce than when using straighteners or a barrel and I find the best use of the L’oreal Steampod is to give the curled ends that you get from a salon blowdry. I’ll leave you with this final note, once you’ve styled your hair using the Steampod you can expect it to stay this way for 3-4 days (if you can go without washing it for this long!)
