Finding The Balance between building a life and living it

“Don’t call them dreams, call them goals”

Like so many I have always been one with big dreams (goals) and a lot of ambition. I work my ass off in order to achieve them and (in true cliche terms) make my dream life a reality. I know so many people with this same mentality and it’s always motivating and inspiring to talk to these types of people. I struggle to understand the mentality of coasting along and to be quite honest if I meet someone who doesn’t have ambition and drive we’ll probably be stretched to find common ground.

Usually I rarely have ‘spare time’. I always find something to fill it with. Until very recently I didn’t watch TV at all (thanks to my sister I’m now Love Island obsessed) – people always think this is crazy. But honestly, I always feel like I have better more productive things to be doing. I hate sleeping in too late and even on a hangover I try to do something with my day. I know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and in fact some peoples worse nightmare (feel free to stop reading here) but that’s just me.

Finding the Balance

However lately I’ve questioned this attitude. If you’re working hard all the time and you aren’t making time to enjoy life, what’s the point? Yes you might achieve your dreams in the long run but what if something happens tomorrow and you don’t get to make those dreams a reality? Recently I’ve taken a huge step back from constantly working in order to ‘live life’ but in doing this I’ve gone to the other extreme. Everything else in my life has been put on hold – the blog being one of them (sorry). I’ve had so much fun recently; on holiday, at events such as Henley regatta, trips to London, visiting new places/restaurants etc. but by doing that I’ve put everything before my goals. I’ve been unproductive, I can’t say I’ve achieved much in the last month or so and it’s left me extremely uninspired.

Balance is definitely key and there is obviously a fine line between the two! I think it’s important to find this balance- something I’m working on! As we’ve hit July (can you believe it?!) and we’ve passed the 6 months into the year mark, it’s the ideal time to reassess what you want out of the year and refocus. Even if it’s just to be young, wild and carefree!

Leave me a comment if you can relate and let me know your tips for keeping the balance!

Completely with you! Not sure I have any good advice on balance because I struggle too. I feel guilty when I take time off, though I know it’s good for me. The best advice I got from someone else was that “You CAN have it all. You just can’t have it all at the same time.” There are seasons for everything and right now I’m in a season of growth for my business. I have friends who think the same way, fortunately, so I’m not an island but I would like to grow to the point that I feel like I can take a week and sit on the beach and read a book. It’s a mindset I know and I’ll be following your blog to see how you figure it out 😉 Also, love the outfit. Thanks for the post.

I can also relate to your struggle. I’ve been working non-stop, and put everything else on hold. I’m thinking about taking some time off from working. Instead, I’ll try to enjoy this summer.
Love your outfit by the way! You look stunning! 🙂
