I never used to be any good with layering. In fact I used to hate winter dressing because of it. I’m someone who get’s really cold all the time so I need layers! However I’ve definitely grown into Autumn/winter styling and – feel like I’m cheating on summer by saying this… – it might even be my favourite season. While warmth is also a priority for me, long gone are the days of layering to keep warm. Now-a-days layering is for ‘fashun’.

2016 saw us layering camis over turtlenecks and tees (Think Kendall Jenner in that slip dress), breaking all the rules wearing layers in all the wrong orders and basically just wearing all our clothes at once. This is becoming more and more prevalent in 2017, with Fashion Weeks in full swing (anyone else got serious FW fomo?!) my Instagram feed full is filling up with beautifully layered outfits styled by some of my favourite bloggers inspiring looks such as, crop tops over tees, fishnet tights under denim and shirts under off the shoulder knits.

But there is a key to ensuring you don’t end up looking like you’ve just rummaged through the back of your wardrobe and chosen 3 items of clothing at random to layer – with your eyes shut. It’s all about mixing textures and fabrics. It’ll break up the outfit and give it depth; lace, velvet and satin are key textures at the moment and mixing these with plainer fabrics will take layering from ~I got dressed in the dark~ to ~This outfit is straight out of Vogue~.

This look is definitely an easy layering option, this denim shirt is actually from the men’s section at Forever21 (sometimes they just have better stuff) and this lace cami is one of my favourites from H&M which I can’t wait to wear in the summer as it has beautiful open lace detailing at the back. Although for now it makes a great layering piece. With such tomboy-like layers the lace breaks up the block colours and softens the look to make it more feminine.
