I’ve heard so much lately people saying things like; ‘I love it, I couldn’t pull it off though‘ or ‘you’re such a hat person, I can’t wear them though‘ and ‘I’m not cool enough to wear…’
Well, it’s all bullshit. The only thing that gets in the way of someone being able to ‘pull something off’ or not is confidence. If you have enough you can wear anything you want. When I first started my blog, I knew exactly the outfits I wanted to wear but too many times I wouldn’t buy or wear what I wanted because I felt that people would judge me on my outfit choices and would find them too bold or brave. Most bloggers will agree that writing a blog and posing for outfit shots in the middle of *insert city here* on a busy Saturday, builds your confidence like nothing else ~ it doesn’t matter if 5 builders have stopped to watch you doing your thing – if you gotta get the shot you gotta get the shot!~ So now, a few years on I can honestly say that if I think something will look cool, no matter whether it’s the most out-there print or quirky trend, I’ll be wearing it and I personally think everyone should do the same and worry less about whether they believe they can ‘pull it off’.
“I’m nicer when I like my outfit”
There is absolute truth to this. If everyone dressed how they felt best, despite what they felt other people would think, the world would be a happier place…In the most minor sense of the word maybe, but still..!
Recently I’ve been wearing this beret every other day and I’ve had a few ‘you’re such a hat person’ comments. Well yeah, it’s because I wear hats.. anyone can be a ‘hat person’ just put a hat on ya head. Just like anyone can wear a latex skirt or leather trousers and look good in them. I’m absolutely not about to tell you that if you wear a bright red patent mini skirt out and about no-one will judge you for your outfit ~ I’ve done this and I can confirm that 80% of people forgot it’s rude to stare that day~ however if you have enough confidence in it that you feel good, who cares?!
Two phrases I use waay too much are, ‘haters gonna hate’ – every time I’m wearing something a little out there (LOL) and ‘you do you, boo’ every time one of my friends questions something they’re buying ’cause it’s not everyone’s vibe. Overused maybe but phrases I do tend to live by when it comes to fashion. Everyone has a different style (it’s called personal style for a reason) so not everyone will like yours; but that shouldn’t stop you wearing whatever you like.
Would love to hear what you think on this, are you a wear what you like kind of person or do you worry about what other’s will think? – leave me a comment below!
